ReplyDeleteI really like this piece by Tangled Feet theatre company as it touches on subjects that need to be talked about such as life as a career, homelessness and the effect of regeneration.
This piece shows their performance technique style of physical theatre, lifts, audience engagement and involvement, use of music, mime and imagination.

This piece explores human behaviour and what it means to humans to care. At 0:17, there's a sequence where the is a square of light on the floor and it's like he's trapped in his own mind (kind of like in an institute place). The sharp, edgy movements suggest to me that the man in that particular part is going insane.
I would label this as a physical theatre performance although it definitely has a feel of dance in it.

ReplyDeleteThe devising company I chose was Complicite. They are an English theatre devising company, created by Simon McBurney. I like their work because they experiment with a lot of different subjects/topics and their work and performances are very physical and enjoying to watch. The link I have included is a show reel that shows a variety of their work and their unique style. I say unique style but from watching the clip you may feel like their work is very similar to that of DV8 and Frantic Assembly. I think Wendy would have really liked this theatre group and I am surprised she didn't show it to us last year.

ReplyDeleteThis video is a small preview of Knee High's adaptation of the gothic novel 'Rebecca' by Daphne Du Maurier. From what I can see from this video, I believe that this is a good performance as there seems to be a variety of dialogue and also physical theatre, which would shape an interesting performance. At 0.48, you can see two characters addressing each other with the use of dialogue in a very dramatic sense but at 0.39, you can see ensemble work which is performed in cannon which is very visually effective. These are both different techniques in which this company give a message to the audience and shape the plot of the play.

ReplyDeleteGecko's performance of 'Missing' "is a deliciously warped journey into the depths of the human psyche. Follow Lily, a woman whose soul appears to be decaying. She is very successful in life and love but something is missing…" I really like Gecko's work as I find their work has a poetic effect to it and they use a wide variety of performance techniques e.g. ensemble, physical theatre and puppetry. They also use slow and hyper motion which links well to Berkoff which I personally appreciate.

I really like this piece by Stan's café because it touches on the different levels of power that the people have in the rooms off of the main corridor. I think this is a really clever way of using a basic focused set, which is something we could definitely use in our performances.
